The Benefits of a 30 Minute Workout
People are always asking us, "why are most of the Board30 workouts only 30 minutes?" It turns out that the length of our workouts is very important! When we start a workout, our bodies send out signals that help us generate the energy, stamina, and muscle growth needed to get us through the exercises. The main boost we need comes from hormone output. The two main hormones released once the body recognizes we are in an increased energy capacity are cortisol and testosterone. Cortisol is a stress hormone; your body releases it when exercising because it's not sure why you are exerting yourself. The body does not recognize modern exercise; thus, your body thinks you could be running from danger or trying to catch food as we did in our hunter, gatherer stage. Testosterone increases stamina and helps build muscle. As we begin our workout, the two hormones stay fairly balanced, working together to help us maintain the energy we need to exert our body. Once you pass the 30-minute mark, your testosterone levels start to drop, and your body works off cortisol more and more until it begins to go into stress mode. Working out in stress mode depletes the body and sends out some terrible messages to counter this. Studies have shown that your brain tells your body to hold onto fat, eat more, and stop building muscle..... This is why, after a grueling and long workout, you feel like you're starving and exhausted, and all you want to do is spend the rest of the day on the couch eating! This is also why most professional athletes have started working out in the 30-minute blocks. They may do several a day, though, letting their testosterone levels build back up in between because of the higher fitness level needed to compete.
At Board30, we can make the most of these 30 minutes because we can use multiple muscle groups in each exercise and add cardio to weight-bearing exercises to maximize the workout. Our full-body approach creates a more balanced physique leaving no muscle unturned. The workout is low impact and can be done daily since no muscle tearing, or stress recovery is needed. 30 minutes is also much more lifestyle-friendly, so no more excuses! Let's get BOARDING!
